Consortium REWORK-E searching for use cases - Nieuws

16 april 2026

The new research project REWORK‑E invites companies to join the consortium.

The project is seeking organisations that can contribute use cases in the areas of consumer electronics, power electronics, and (connected) systems.

Objective: This project aims to investigate how collaborative circular business models in the electronics industry can be strengthened and scaled to become operationally efficient, financially viable, and institutionally supported. While circular strategies such as repair, refurbishment, leasing, and product-as-a-service are increasingly adopted, many initiatives struggle to move beyond pilot stages due to inefficiencies in supply chains, misaligned incentives, unclear risk allocation, and regulatory constraints.

Goal: The project addresses these challenges through an integrated approach combining four complementary perspectives:

  1. Focus on the design of collaborative circular business models, analyzing how organizations can jointly develop viable business cases and governance structures within circular ecosystems.
  2. Examine value chain economics and risk architecture, identifying inefficiencies, cost drivers, and mechanisms for risk-sharing and financial viability.
  3. Analyze public law, governance, and institutional incentives, exploring how regulatory frameworks and policy instruments shape the feasibility of circular models.
  4. Evaluate environmental, social, and economic performance through integrated life cycle assessment methods, ensuring that circular business models deliver multiple forms of value.

The research will be conducted in close collaboration with industry and public partners through a living lab approach, enabling the co-development and testing of practical solutions in real-world settings. The project aims to generate actionable insights for companies, policymakers, and other stakeholders seeking to implement and scale circular business models.
